Other than the religious implications, eating as much as humanly possible is what Christmas is all about. There is more pressure to present a delicious feast during the holidays than any other time of the year. That means cooking a scrumptious meal of seasonal favourites while decking the halls and hanging the Christmas tree with care. Christmas decorations can transform an ordinary eating area into a place of fancy and wonder. For many people the buffet is the preferred setup for the yuletide meal. Others like to sit down for a proper dinner.  Either way there are ornaments and accessories that can take a Christmas gathering from supper to super with only a few steps. Most of them involve acquiring these useful and decorative essentials for the perfect Christmas meal.

1. Serving Trays

Serving trays are necessary to present food on the table. Most of the time people serve themselves from the dishes that hold the feast. Otherwise we would be eating from pots and pans with our fingers like barbarians. Colourful Christmas serving trays come in many themes for Christmas dining: Santa Claus, snowmen, Christmas trees, gingerbread men, candy canes, and more. Compartmentalized dishes are ideal for holding two complimentary foods such as chips and dip. A single, large dish is better for ideal dishes or even dessert. And when you finish, there is a happy snowman at the bottom to say hello.

2. Tablewear

For special occasions it is nice to dress up the table as well as ourselves. A festive table runner brightens up the room and makes the food taste a little better. Table runners are remarkable for their ability to adorn many types of flat surfaces. You can lay it down the centre of a large dining room table or cover up a narrow side table.  Look for festive colour combinations like burgundy and gold, ivory and gold, red and green, black and silver or silver and grey. There are many patterned table runners available including floral prints with poinsettias or holly.

3. Centre Piece

If there is room with all of the food on the table then a centre piece is the perfect complement to a table runner. You can get very creative with a Christmas centre piece using any manner of table top trees, decorative ornaments and even musical toys. If there is no time to put together a centre piece amid the hustle and bustle of the holiday activities, then there are plenty of premade centre pieces available. Many take the form of Christmas time plants like artificial evergreen boughs, spikey holly and poinsettias in every colour. They can be further embellished with Christmas tree ornaments.

4. Bon Bons

Christmas crackers or bon bons have been a popular source of Christmas entertainment since the 19th century. Those young and old alike enjoy pulling apart bon bons at the Christmas table so that they can wear the silly hat inside. If the idea of using homemade crackers made from toilet paper tubes at a dinner party does not appeal to you, there are a lot of premade Christmas crackers on the market. They come in as many different styles as there are wrapping paper -- gold holly, silver and white Merry Christmas, silver and black, burgundy and gold - making it easy to match them to the décor.

5. Place Cards

One of the most important jobs for any host or hostess is making sure that their guests are getting along swimmingly. Place cards help eliminate the confusion of who sits where at the holiday feast. That way you can make sure that the soft spoken guests stay social, while the couple that is always arguing stays far apart. Nearly anything can be used to indicate a person's name on the table and for Christmastime it is a good idea to use ornaments. Tiny trinkets like pinecones, stars or reindeer can hold up a place card. They also make great individualized gifts that your guests can take home.
