The Christmas tree is in most cases your major decorating item and careful planning and consideration should go into how to decorate it. Needless to say, spending time on decorating the Christmas tree will be well worth it when you see the happiness on your family and friend's faces.
Style and Size
The first choice you have to make is the style and size of tree you want. At The Christmas Warehouse, we specialise in artificial trees in many different styles and sizes so it's easy to find one that fits your personal taste. There are also many benefits associated with artificial Christmas Trees. Our magnificent range includes; Traditional Christmas Trees, Fibre Optic Christmas Trees, Snow Frosted Trees and Table Top Smaller Trees.
Unpacking your Christmas Tree
Once you have selected your tree and unpacked it from its storage box, make sure you carefully spruce out all the tree branches. This entails methodically going through each branch of the tree and ensuring it is formed into its perfect shape with even spacing between the branches and minimal gaps. Try running your hand against the grain of the branches to fluff it up (we suggest using some hardy gloves while doing this). The result is a full, balanced well groomed tree that you can enjoy throughout the festive period.
Now that your Christmas tree has been set up, here are some useful Christmas tree decorating ideas and tips:
Christmas Lights
- At The Christmas Warehouse we have a large range of Christmas lights that are perfect for tree decorating.
- Always start decorating your Christmas tree with your Christmas lights.
- Please always follow the manufacturer's instructions on the box before you commence using your lights.
- Make sure you check the light set before you commence to make sure that it is working correctly..
- Here is a good guide to the number of lights you may need. This may vary based on the size of the bulbs and the other decorations on the tree, but remember that the more lights you have, the more spectacular your tree will be:
Tree Size | Number of lights |
1.2 metres (4ft) | 180 lights |
1.8 metres (6ft) | 360 lights |
2.3 metres (7.5ft) | 540 lights |
3 metres (10ft) | 720 lights |
- Run an extension electrical multi plug cord from the power outlet to the centre of the tree and plug the lights into the power outlet and turn the power on.
- Start arranging the lights from the branches closest to the base of the tree and work your way up and carefully weave the cord inside and outside the tree branches. Try and be as methodical as you can.
- If you are using more than one set of lights, run the light cord directly up the centre of the tree to commence where your previous set finished.
- Hide the light cords by winding them around the branches and nestling them in the needles and try not to hang light bulbs in mid-air.
Tree Decorations
- Once you have decorated your tree with lights, your tree decorations should then follow.
- A tree can follow a particular color scheme and theme or it can be a mixed bag of decorations.
- The Christmas Warehouse has a superb range of Christmas tree decorations, but you may also want to personalise your tree with your own decorations such as family photos, lollies or other personal treasures - you are really only limited by your imagination.
- Carefully suspend your decorations from the tree branches, but be sure to not only decorate on the tips of the branches, but also within the tree itself.
- Hanging metal clips can be extremely useful for suspending your decorations from the tree.
- Tree decorations will look more attractive if they are suspended mid air rather than touching the tree branches - this will ad depth and interest to your tree.
- A good decorating idea is to start decorating with your basic theme such as baubles or stars, that you should spread evenly throughout the tree. This will give your tree a well balanced look.
- Follow this with the addition decorations such as bows, bells or pine cones and then add specialised hanging decorations according to your taste.
- Christmas decorating picks are useful for adding immediate colour and style and simply be positioned between the branches.
- Wrap your tree thereafter with a wired garland. Start from the bottom of the tree and work your way up
- Lametta (shredded tinsel) is also a popular favourite for sprinkling on your tree branches as they look like icicles and give your tree a shimmering effect.. Simply cut the lametta and sprinkle all around your tree from as high as possible.
- And finally don't forget to finish your beautiful tree with a tree top, a tree skirt and some artificial snow!
More ideas to consider:
- Hang larger decorations closer to the bottom of tree for balance.
- Run your Christmas train set around the base of the tree.
- Get your kids involved with decorating the tree. It can be a memorable family event ...ask your kids to help by creating their own decorations.
- Match your Christmas tree with your Christmas Wreaths, garlands and centerpiece theme.
- After Christmas store your tree carefully so it can be used year after year. Why not consider a nylon Christmas tree bag?
Your Christmas tree is now ready to be enjoyed!
